And today I made this for my breakfast, and also for my friend (I should sorry to her because it should be very late breakfast... I trapped by heavy rain today`s morning and can`t go anywhere since then)
Ahahhahaha how ugly :P I really want to make smiley on it but pffffttt... failed in the first try...

Well here it is if you want to do some experiment in your kitchen...

Fried rice:
chop onion, red onion, and garlic
fried all together until it smell good
put some rice and stir well
add some sweet soy sauce, pepper, and salt
stir well and Tadaaaa! everything are ready

Omelet?
Just like the way you make omelet :p
But if I can suggest you use a pan with wide diameter, I think it will be easier because remember after this you should roll the egg into the rice

Time to roll!
Place your fried rice onto half part of your omelete
then roll you egg carefully.

Seems easy right?
But trust me it is a little bit tricky at first
Don`t forget to add some tomato sauce or whatever you love :)

I remember in the first time in Japan, I have no idea about how to open onigiri wrap, it is quite tricky sometimes. But actually it is not Japan if they not wrap something well and easy... but what can you say, I was a newbie on that time.

So here, I show you how to open it :P
The point is the "numbers" in the warp is not there without meaning
It show step by step about how you should open the warp correctly and smoothly!

First! look you onigiri with full of love
Second, pull the peak of your onigiri plastic warp (no. 1)
Third, now pull the right and the left side of your onigiri warp (no.2 and 3)
Anda Tadaaaaaa.... enjoy your onigiri happily...


 I think not all onigiri has english on their wrapping...
so if you have any alergy or you can`t consume some ingredients (for Moslem especially, it is quite tough isn`t it? :) ) I just can suggest you some ways:
1. Just go everywhere with your friend who capable in Japanese
2. Use you gadget, bro... google translate now can translate photos :P
3. Learn a little bit some Japanese vocabulary...
for example:
肉 (niku): meat
豚肉 (Buta niku): pork
鶏肉 (Tori niku): chicken牛肉 (gyuniku): beef
魚 (sakana): fish
大豆(daizu): soy

I got panicked when I heard my friend got an accident and of course she got injured...
I have no idea about what should I do, but I think she needs to eat well to get better. I think she will not have any mood to cook, better I cook for her.  But, she is really good in cooking, and me? pfffft... I am beginner in this world, I am professional food lover but novice chef. I opened my refrigerator, and it was also nothing on it. Oh come on :(

But I still have some paprika, pineapple, onions, and maybe a little creativity...
So for today menu I decided to make her some onigiri and Spicy and Sour Chicken Nugget. It was too spicy actually :p I will make it better... but it is a good idea if you need something fast and nice to eat.

Spicy and Sour Chicken Nugget

What you need?

* Garlic, onions, paprika, pineapple
* Chicken nugget (make sure it is halal if you are moslem, you can find halal chicken nugget in amazon, halal shop, and gyoumu shop if you are in Japan :) )
*Tomato and Chili sauce
*Lemon
*Pepper, salt
*water, just a little :)
*oil for frying


What you should do?
Just saute garlic and onion first, after that put the the nugget in
mix it with paprika and pineapple, chili and tomato sauce
give pepper, salt, lemon juice.
add water
wait until it is cooked :)

I think it is very easy... just magically mix everything and you will have something to eat in your plate :)




I still find any idea for my friend breakfast

So today this is my bento!

Look nice isn`t it... but however I just can make quick and simple foods.
I inspired by a post in 9gag.

What I did?
I have a nice wheat bread and make a hole on it
before that I already mixed egg with some vegetables, onion, pepper, sugar, and cheese.
Heat the pan, add some margarin and fried the bread.
After that pour the mixed egg into the hole, reduce the heat, and wait until you feel the egg half cooked then reserve it

Tadaaaaa.... finish....
enjoy the meal :)

If you have no idea about what you should bring for bento today! Try onigiri and rolled omelete
onigiri
basicaly so can use everything for onigiri, but in Japan plum, dried seawed, and sesame are commonly used. you can mixed it with some egg, fish, or everthing. The main point is you should should have very fluffy rice like in Japan. In Japan, we use Oryza japonica rice, it is very sticky so making onigiri will be not such a big deal. I try using Oryza javanica rice in Indonesia, and it was a little bit more difficult because the rice are not stick each other well.

Rolled Omelete
Basically you just make a simple omelete, what make Japan omelete special is: They rolled it! Trust me, I learn a lot for this. What you should do is make very thin layer of omelete then roll! after that add some thin layer below it and then roll! and so on and so on.
First try may be failed, but never give up.
To make it testy, don`t forget to add some vegetebles, onion, pepper, and some sugar :)

What is Kebab?
What is Doner?
Is it has the same taste with what we have in Indonesia? or Japan?
Can you taste it for me?

I got so many questions about Doner Kebab while I went to Istanbul. Not about my conference, not about my condition, but it is about KEBAB! Sorry to say also Istanbul, as beautiful country, with beautiful view and cats, with awesome architecture, world just know about your Kebab...

Okay...okay... hold on a second, I will write you the review!
But first of all let`s appreciate the beauty of Istanbul first!

Trem In Taksim Square, I think this is one of the busiest part in Istanbul

So, I went to Taksim area, and from Taksim square I just walk a little to Istiklal Street. I really love photography and I have lots of beautiful photos here. But while this blog is only about my culinary experience, just see what I found here! Doner Kebab.

I just know that Doner is come from Turkish "dön-mek" and means "spins", yeah because they spin the meat! and Kebab it self comes from "Kababa"an armaic languange means piece of grilled meat. (PS: trust me I also googling what armaic is! It is a mix between arabic and hebrew language, you may gooling for it also... whatever it is, we do agree it must be something difficult :P). So, doner kebab [maybe] means they spin the meat to grill it than grill it into pieces! I can sleep peacefully now :D

Aha! So it must be called: Doner!

Okey, let`s have a review about the kebab it self!
I took a chicken kebab for 6TL (It is around 2 Euro, or 30.000 IDR, or 300 yen, ask google for any other currency). It was already a package with a coca-cola... so it is relatively very cheap isn`t it?


 In my first month in Japan, I am really sick with Kebab! Can you imagine, almost every weeks I ate kebab just because that was the only delicious halal things I knew that time, and in every bite I told to myself "Marissa, someday eat kebab in Turkey", and that`s moment comes into my life. For me, it is delicious but nothing special, I taste the same thing in Tokyo... while for Indonesian, I face every Indonesian problems: everything taste not spicy enough. Where is saus sambal? Come on! Indonesia put chilies everywhere!!!

But let`s be objective Marissa,
well the bread was great, it is cooked well and taste crispy and soft in the same time, the meat also nice and I think the meat was more than what we have in Indonesia. 

If you need fast food with nice taste in Turkey, simply find Doner Kebab
But, if you want to hear my suggestion.... don`t come in Zuhur time (around 11:00-13:00) on Friday, you will be surprised when suddenly they close the shop and run to the mosque to do Jumaah prayer... and left you alone. Is it me who experiencing that things? hahahhaa I don`t know... but just in case ;)

Last month, after hunting for some photos in Showa Kinen Park Tachikawa and Tokyo University with my friend, Amel, our tummy asked to be fulfilled. We need another full tank after a long journey. It is a little bit a shame for me while I already stay in Tokyo longer than Amel but I have no idea about nice restaurants around Tokyo. Amel ask me have I try Manhattan Fish Market... it sells varies of seafoods and another delicious stuffs... and it HALAL! It was a little bit far from our starting point, but you should surprised with human will when they are HUNGRY!

Let`s have a little review about it!

Based on Amel`s recommendation, we request for a shrimp menu (Sorry, I forget the name), Amel said it was very chezzy and absolutely delicious, who can say no then?
then tadaaaaaa.... here is our special menu come.... the waitress bring our dish and WOOOOSSSSHHHH burn our chesse shrimp!

Looks great isn`t it... I think you only can see this attraction if you request for this dish, I don`t know I haven`t try all of the menu. Here it is our glorious dish. I must say that the shrimp is nothing but awesome. I never like shrimp, but this one is different... very chessy and if feels like everything mix well and melt in your mouth. If it was in my apartment and there is no one there, I will simply lick all parts of my plate because it is DE-LI-CI-OUS!
While we are two person, we also ask for another one dish, it was salmon if I am not mistaken... whatever it was... it was fish. It is nice, very soft fish... but the problem was we already hypnotized with the shrimp and we already full in that time.

Tadaaaa....!
I am not good in cooking, but I really love food... so I learn a little bit now. Living in Tokyo is quite hard, because everything are expensive, especially fruits. I am dying missing Indonesia if I remember how cheap fruits are in my country. In Japan, the cheapest fruit is BANANA. Here the problem.... I don`t like banana :(

So I have and idea, I made a banana pancake!
Yeph! Pancake. I love pancake so I think it will be great combine something I really hate with something I really love...


 

What you need:
1 Banana, peel it
2 egg
milk
maple syrup
apple or strawbery

How to make it?
puree the banana in a bowl
mix it with egg and some milk
stir it
heat the pan, then pour our pancake dough gradually
cook it well :P

after that serve in a nice place, pour your favorite maple syrup or refined sugar
and if you want to make it looks beautiful, add some pieces of apple or strawberry or your favorite fruits.

Easy isn`t it? Enjoooy! :D
